Zac and Rachael
United Kingdom to United States of America (New York)
December 19, 2020
I’m from the UK and my new wife is from USA and we just tied the knot on 31st December in Jamaica yyaaayyy
I stayed for 16 days and was able to get into New York quite easily without being pulled into a room. We flew into Newark (New Jersey) and I fly back and forth from london and NY quite frequently for my job (sometimes I fly to NY 16 times a year) so I get pulled into the back rooms a lot usually so I was expecting to be questioned again but they didn’t pull me.
This time I came in, said I was here for business (as technically I am but I’ve never stayed longer than 14 days but I’m now staying 3 months on my Esta Visa). The border officer asked me how long I was staying for, if I had any symptoms and when I was last in the UK. I didn’t mention I was married as I am technically here on business so it didn’t open up that line of questioning. I haven’t been asked for a phone number or if I was going to stay at the location I wrote on the entry form for any sort of quarantine. Actually, nothing was said to me at all about quarantining or what I had to do. I have heard that it is stricter flying into JFK as it’s obviously a different state.
I will get tested 4 days after landing for my own peace of mind as that is the requirement for NY. I haven't got health insurance or anything as I live in the UK but Covid tests in NY are free for all.
