Nora and William
Czechia to United States of America (Montana)
My fiance 🇺🇸 USA and I 🇨🇿 Czech Republic / 🇪🇺 EU-Schengen enjoyed our first meal together in Missoula, Montana.
After much deliberation, we decided to elope and married in a small private ceremony conducted by the minister from Utah County via videoconference 💻 where we were able to obtain our Marriage License online. A few American states have allowed that during the lockdowns this year.
They checked our documents, my passport and his ID. We took a long shot and married legally before meeting each other person, because I felt we would waste a lot of time and money if I had to spend 14 days in a third country, then have less time with him in USA, and still be under tremendous pressure to elope to that we can visit each other!
I entered on ESTA (Visa Waiver Travel Registration) which I had from last year and was asked to produce the Marriage Certificate and his ID and Birth Certificate to get on board. (Passport would also do.) This took a lot of time in Prague and I ended up boarding the plane to Amsterdam last minute!
In Seattle the officers at customs mostly wanted to be assured that I am coming back and won't stay illegally since I am married to an American citizen. I talked about my work schedule and return ticket, stated I won't be adjusting my status now. They were very nice to me. They asked how we met, how long we have been married and how long I have known him.
My Greencard petition is almost prepared (I recommend the service by Boundless.com), as soon as he gets his passport we fill file it. Needed live pictures with family and to meet them. (The Immigration Service will demand proof that your relationship is public and you met in person.)
I haven't regretted this adventure so far and want to thank everyone in this group the information really helped me! 😊
P. S. This is my engagement ring and I got him the watch, in the same store, great deal! I had no idea Americans buy and sell rings at hawk shops (pawnshops) I was shocked, but we actually got a great deal on both items and I got my mother in law jewelry!
