Maddalena and Giorgio
United States of America (New York) to Italy
Third Country ?
December 4, 2020
Giorgio and I met spontaneously in August 2020. My friends and I were driving from Milan to Puglia and one of them suggested we stop half way in the city of Pescara to grab lunch with her old roommate, Giorgio. After two hours of eating and walking together on the beach I asked him to join us in Puglia. He thought I was totally crazy and said he had to work that night. I told him I’d wait for him while he worked, and that we could hit the road after he was done. He was baffled but said ok let’s do it! He brought me to his family’s beautiful home to wait for him, where I met his parents, sister, and nephew. I showered and ate dinner on the terrace with them while we waited for Giorgio to return. That night we drove to Puglia and the rest is history! For the remainder of August we travelled across Puglia and Valle D’aosta, ultimately returning to Pescara and then FCO for my flight back home. I had a job lined up in NY and sadly had to fly back. The three months apart were both excruciating but filled with so much love and excitement. We talked multiple times a day and sent post cards and gifts. Giorgio made me feel so loved and close to him even though we were not physically together. Three months later on December 5th we were more in love than ever and I flew back to live with him. My airport experiences couldn’t have been smoother. Agents barely blinked twice at my documents, letting me move easily in both NY and Rome. This group has been fundamental in giving us the hope and documents to travel during these COVID times. I am so happy to be part of this wonderful community.
